Welcome to Design Fetish by Deshara, LLC. I am Deshara Bohanna, a single mom of 3 amazing girls and a lover of beautiful things, be it a summer sunset, or a well-designed room. Beautifying my surroundings and making lovely things has followed me since I was a girl. Whether rearranging bedroom furniture, buying a kit to paste and enhance high school pics (scrapbooking before the term was coined), making teddy bears or home made skirts, my sis and I were always up to something creative! Now, the rock earrings I made for my mom’s birthday when I was about 10, that was a stretch, but maybe it was a sign of things to come. What can I say? Accessories can make or break. Be it earrings, hairbows, pillows, or a door wreath, it’s the small things that make a big difference. My propensity to create, refresh, and design lovely things has led to design fetishes I never imagined.
The Designer
Background and Community
After earning a BA in Journalism at University of Arkansas Pine Bluff and pursuing a graduate degree at Iowa State University, I worked in corporate America for over 10 years. In September 2016, the wreath and floral industry found ME which lead to a career reset and the pursuit of my entrepreneurial dreams. I launched the business full-time in October 2017 focusing on the mission to create beautiful conversation pieces and décor that uplift, inspire and celebrate life’s special moments. Wreaths and florals by Design Fetish are now found in local hospital boutiques, gift shops, hotels and restaurants and are a top purchase item for realtors and event planners.
A passion for designing beautiful things, connecting with people, parenting my three girls, and giving back through community service drive me to be a multi-faceted creative entrepreneur. I serve as a school board member in the Ankeny Community School District where I see being an advocate for teachers, students and parents as a great honor and I am excited to be using my voice to help close the gaps and create a stronger bridge into our educational future. Habitat for Humanity, Youth Emergency Shelter and Services (YESS), After School Arts Programs (ASAP), and Blank Children’s Hospital are a few of the organizations I have worked with. In 2019, I established the Ankeny Community Network which officially became a nonprofit in 2020. The organization’s mission is to provide a supportive environment that appreciates multiculturalism and diversity through relationship building, civic engagement, community leadership and education.
The B-Girls Bougie Boutique is the latest extension of By Deshara.
Sanai, Sarai, and Zyla Bohanna are a perfect fusion of creativity, zazz, and structure. The trio not only has the recipe for originality, but they serve fabulous functionality with a side of bougie. I'm a former florist , so I'm capable of designing my own wreaths and decorations but when I saw Deshara's work on a Facebook live, I loved one of the pieces I saw and ordered it. Perfect for fall. Later I needed a piece for a kitchen remodel. I told her what I was thinking and she created another beautiful wreath.
